The Contractor CIS can be complex so contact Nasa if you need
some assistance!
If you're new to contracting as a self-employed worker within
the CIS industry, it can be a very daunting and confusing
time. There is a lot of information to digest. You may
also find that you begin to get confused as to whether you are a
contractor or a subcontractor in the CIS scheme or both.
You may have always referred to yourself as a self-employed
contractor CIS worker however technically you may not actually be a
contractor. It is more likely that you are in fact a
subcontractor. They are two totally different things and you should
be aware of where you fit into the scheme. You are considered
a contractor within the CIS industry if you engage subcontractors
for construction operations and/or you run a business that spends
an average of £1 million or more a year over a three-year period on
construction operations. If you do neither of these and you
simply agree to do some work for a contractor, you would be
considered a subcontractor.
So now that you have established exactly where you fit into the
CIS scheme, it is important to understand fully how it works and if
you haven't sought professional advice about how to deal with your
financial affairs, it is definitely worth doing so now. Don't
fall into the trap of getting caught up in the subcontractor or
contractor CIS paperwork - it is not worth it. Get Nasa
Consulting to do it for you! It's a great service for a small
price and saves you precious time and the hassle that comes with
having to ensure you're paying the correct amount of tax etc.
