It's tough being a Contractor in the UK,
but Nasa can support you...
If you're a contractor in the UK today, you will know what a
tough world it is out there at the moment. There are many
issues to take into account in addition to those that come with
your everyday job. If you are working through your own
limited company, you will do doubt have business finances to think
about on a daily basis along with worrying about whether
or not you can secure work after your current contract ends but
also many UK Contractors are concerned about what HMRC may throw at
you next or if you could be the next victim of an IR35
investigation. IR35 has been a tricky piece of
legislation to try and understand and if you have been unlucky
enough to be subject to an IR35 enquiry, we hope you survived
it! Now it seems that as a UK contractor, your working life
may be subject to change as we now have the Office of Tax
Simplification (OTS) on the case to try and simplify it. Can
this be done? Well, we just don't know but there are
certainly ways in which it could be dealt with a whole lot
better. The OTS has asked for our input on how IR35 can be
changed for the better. We are honoured to be involved in
this process and to hopefully play a part in making many
contractors in the UK, extremely happy about a much less stressful
working life. If you are new to contracting and reading this
concerns you about setting up a limited company, please do not let
this stop you - you could be starting up at just the right
time. Contractors in the UK are soon to witness changes and
it appears that this time, HMRC want the same as us, simpler
rules that we can all understand and work to with hopefully a lot
