Kate and William are now man and wife but has your business
suffered becuase of it?
Many people have been commenting on the Royal Wedding and the
fact that for most businesses, it has cost them an awful lot of
money!
Unfortunately, with the wedding falling on the Friday, to be
honest, the whole week can't have been a great trading week for
many as it seems a large amount of the country decided to take it
off completely. It's interesting as some feel very strongly
that the wedding should never have taken place at this time of the
year and for others, they simply can't understand how people can be
so discourteous.
But, to be honest, you can understand why so many have been
upset when you put things into perspective - it has been estimated
that the royal wedding will have cost the economy in the region of
5 billion pounds. Wow!
The extra bank holiday really couldn't have come at a worse time
for businesses and the Federation of Small Business said that it
was a real concern. Stephen Alambritis said "After the hike
in VAT in January, which could really slow consumer demand, many
will be looking to a really strong Easter to get their business
going. But there will be a real temptation for workers not to
bother going in to work. It will be a three-day week and it could
see many businesses just shut down."
This is extremely concerning and we sincerely hope the Royal
Wedding doesn't affect businesses as drastically as the FSB
suggest.
Obviously, retailers and publicans will have done considerably
well over the holiday generating a boost in sales from the
additional shoppers and drinkers. Let's hope the joyous
occasion didn't cause too many problems for the other businesses
around the country - I'm sure everyone is getting stuck back into
the business as usual routine to make up for it this week!
